Song Story: How "Graveside" Came to Life

Before Real Fun Records was even a thing—before we had a name, a website, or any real structure—we had a studio, some coffee, and friends who wanted to make music.

Graveside was one of the first songs we ever worked on. It happened pretty naturally—Josh Fisher, Nate Moore, Chris McClarney, and I were just hanging at the studio. Nate had a demo he’d written, and we were like, “Wanna track it?” No big plan. Just a moment that felt worth chasing.

So we started laying down some drums and bass… and then it turned into more. We kept inviting friends to jump in. Layer by layer, the song came to life. It felt like something was building—bigger than just a song.

But what made it really special were the conversations in between takes. Nate started sharing what the song was really about, and it hit me hard.

“God doesn’t waste anything—not our pain, not our waiting, not even our lowest moments. I thought I was at the end of the road, but that’s where He met me. And that’s where everything started to change.”

That line stuck with me. Nate talked about walking through serious darkness—battling anxiety, depression, deep loss… and how in the middle of all of that, Jesus met him. Not with a lightning bolt or easy answers, but with presence. With peace.

“God meets us exactly where we are, as we are—but He never leaves us there. His strength becomes real especially in our weakness.”

That’s the heartbeat of Graveside. And honestly, it’s kind of the heartbeat of this whole thing we’re building. Real Fun Records started right around that time, and it felt like this song set the tone—raw, honest, redemptive. New life coming out of dark places.

I’m so proud of Nate for putting words to something so real, and I hope this song connects with people who feel like they’re standing at their own graveside right now. Because the truth is, that’s where resurrection starts.
