Seahawks vs Saints recap: Seattle DEMOLISHES New Orleans 44-13
Seattle put together one of it’s most dominant performances in quite some time, obliterating the Saints 44–13 at Lumen Field. The win moved the Seahawks to 2–1 and reminded the league that this team can dominate in all three phases when we’re locked in.
The Good…
Special Teams Spark
Seattle’s special teams flipped the field for us all afternoon. Coverage was airtight, and returns consistently set up short fields for the offense. It was the kind of edge that makes good teams look great. I heard that our special teams was directly responsible for 30 points! Love it!
Tory Horton’s Breakout
I was excited when we drafted Tory and he’s proving me right to all my trash-talking football friends. The rookie wideout made his presence felt in a big way Sunday with a TD catch and a 95-yard punt return for a TD (franchise record!) Horton showcased why we picked him up and also put on display what all the other teams missed out on when they overlooked him. He looked like a future staple in Seattle.
Defense in Control
This is the identity we were hoping for with Macdonald at the helm. Gritty. Tough. You don’t want to try anything on the Seahawks defense cause they’ll make you pay! Could’ve prevented them from getting in the endzone all game- just need to clean up some of the focus late game (especially when the game is already out of hand in our favor).
The “Not Yet”…
Run Game
The ground attack never found rhythm. The offensive line struggled to open holes, and backs couldn’t get loose. If we want to stay balanced against tougher opponents, the run game has to be more reliable. We didn’t really need a ton of production on the run… but would’ve been nice to see more explosiveness at the line.
Sloppy Finish
Like I mentioned earlier.. we could’ve kept them out of the endzone all game. Multiple costly penalties extended the drive and eventually we gave up a TD. I’ll allow it for this game since we basically had the game in the bag already, but in the future, I’d like to see them finish strong.
Bottom Line
Seattle flexed in Week 3.. special teams and defense leading the way, Horton emerging as a playmaker, and the scoreboard telling the entire NFL we’re coming for them. If the Seahawks can clean up the run game and sharpen their finish, they’ll be a tough match for anyone in the league.
